The 94-95 season proved to be a turbulent time for Portsmouth, they embarked on a miserable league campaign as they finished the season off in 18th place. One of the pluses emerging from the campaign was the rise of their young prodigy, Lee Bradbury, who brought toughness back into the team and was arguably the most motivated football player in the league.
The 95-96 season was even more disappointing than the previous, even there experienced players, Alan Mcloughlin and Paul Walsh could not lift the side during the season and Pompey were most fortunate not to avoid the drop. There new manager, Terry Fenwick promised a huge improvement the following season and he practiced what he preached. Portsmouth made a huge improvement in league form during the 1996-97 campaign, they were unfortunate to narrowly miss out on a place in the play offs as they finished off the season strongly in 7th position.
The 97-98 season, at the end, proved to be Terry Fenwick’s last campaign in charge at the club, as Portsmouth’s league form took a turn for the worse and stumbled at the end of the season to a disappointing 20th place finish. They only managed to win 13 of their 46 matches and were fortunate to avoid relegation.
