Andy Awford

Awford started his career playing for Worcester City at the young age of 15 years and 88 days. His potential soon earned him a move to Portsmouth and he instantly became a regular starter at the club. His outstanding displays for Pompey earned him a call up to the England Under 21’s squad and he was outstanding during the 1991-92 season, where he helped Portsmouth reach the semi finals of the FA Cup. Despite suffering from injury during the 1993-94 season, he bounced back and went on to play over 400 matches for Portsmouth, a loyal and outstanding representative of this club.

 

Paul Walsh

Walsh started his career playing for Charlton and then moved on to Luton Town. In 1985, he moved to Liverpool for £700,000, his time at Liverpool was unfortunately hampered by injuries. In the summer of 1990, Walsh moved to Tottenham, helping the club win the FA Cup in 1991. He soon later on became familiar with Portsmouth, enjoying two long spells playing for the club. He also went on to play for QPR and Manchester City.

 

Alan Mcloughlin

McLoughlin started his career off playing for Man United, prior joining Swindon Town the following season. After a short spell at Swindon he moved to on to play for Torquay United on loan before returning to Swindon. He starred for the Republic Of Ireland in Italia 90 and became a regular starter at Swindon. His great displays earned him a £1 million move to Aston Villa in December 1990 for £1 million. In February 1992, he moved to Portsmouth and went on to enjoy some fine years at the club. In his debut season, he helped the club reach the semi finals of the FA Cup. He went on to spend over seven years at the club, making over 200 appearances, before playing for Wigan Athletic. He ended his career with Forest Green Rovers.

 

Mark Chamberlain

At one stage of his career he looked like having the potential of being a real wing star after moving to Stoke City from Port Vale. He was fast and bright and had a knack of getting in the crosses. He graduated from Under 21 Cap to full England cap honors, in total playing 8 times for his nation. Prior his move to Portsmouth, he spent three successful seasons with Sheffield Wednesday.

 

Warren Neil

Warren Neil started off his football career as an England school boy international and began playing for Queens Park rangers in 1980 at the young age of 18 years, he soon became a popular figure at Loftus Road, spending 8 seasons at the club. He appeared for Rangers in the final of the 1982 FA Cup against Tottenham. In the summer of 1988 he moved to Portsmouth for £110,000 and soon established himself in the starting line up for Pompey.
