George Graham

Graham commenced his football playing career at Aston Villa in 1961. After three seasons at the club, he moved to Chelsea in July 1964, signing for £5000. He was prolific in front of goal, notching up 35 goals in only 72 league matches. In 1965, he was sold to Arsenal for a staggering £75,000 and played behind the main striker at Arsenal. He spent six seasons playing for the Gunners, appearing in 227 matches and scoring 60 goals. He helped Arsenal win the double during the 1970-71 season. He then went on to spend two seasons playing for Manchester united. In 1974 he moved to Portsmouth, a club which he spent nearly three years with, making over 70 appearances for. He ended his playing career with Crystal palace.

Peter Marinello

Marinello signed from Arsenal for the start of the 1973-74 season for £100,000 (a lot of money at the time period) and he was dubbed by many as the new ‘George Best.’ He was skilful in all parts of the field and had electrifying pace, running past defenders easily. Portsmouth went in search of promotion during his debut season, however they could not find the end product and they ended up finishing in a dismal 15th position.
