Thomas McGhee

McGhee signed for Portsmouth in May 1954 and made an instant impact at the club. He was outstanding in his full back position, enjoying his partnership at the back with Kack Mansell and helped Portsmouth finish the 1954-55 season off in third position in the first division. In total he spent five seasons playing for Portsmouth before moving to Reading after Pompey had been relegated to the second division in 1959. He is one of the greatest ever players to have played for Portsmouth.

Jimmy Dickinson

Dickinson holds the record of most appearances ever made for Portsmouth. He spent nearly 20 years playing for Pompey, recording a staggering 845 appearances, only Swindon Town’s John Trollope has made a higher number of appearances for a single club. He made his debut in 1946 and became a permanent fixture in the squad. His brilliant performances helped Portsmouth win back to back league titles in the 1948-49 season and the 1949-1950 season. He made his final appearance for Portsmouth in 1964 and during his time at the club he earned 48 England caps. He is regarded as one of the most sporting players to have played in the football league, never being booked or sent off in his long career.  Dickinson died in 1981 at the young age of 53.
